Málaga's public healthcare comes under the Servicio Andaluz de Salud (SAS), Andalusia's regional health service and the largest of Spain's seventeen by population served. Spanish is the sole official language. State healthcare is run at regional level, so the rules you meet depend on where you are rather than on Spain as a whole. That combination puts sustained pressure on SAS urgencias departments in summer, and waits at the busiest coastal centres lengthen considerably between June and September. The city itself has grown a significant remote-working community in recent years, adding year-round demand for prescriptions and routine care to what was historically a seasonal pattern.
