Ibiza's public healthcare is provided by IB-Salut, the Servei de Salut de les Illes Balears, with Catalan co-official alongside Spanish. State healthcare is run at regional level, so the rules you meet depend on where you are rather than on Spain as a whole. EU, EEA and Swiss visitors holding an EHIC (or a UK GHIC) can use public primary care and emergency departments on the same terms as residents, though you will normally be asked for the card plus photo ID at reception. Outside surgery hours, pharmacies operate a rota — the farmacia de guardia — and the duty pharmacy is posted in the window of every closed chemist. Ibiza has the sharpest seasonal swing of any Spanish destination: the island's population multiplies over the summer, and its health services absorb a young, short-stay visitor population concentrated into a few months around Sant Antoni, Platja d'en Bossa and Ibiza Town. The resulting demand pattern is genuinely distinctive — dehydration, sun exposure, minor injuries and sexual-health concerns predominate, often among visitors who are on the island for only a few days and have no local registration. Specialist capacity is island-scale, with onward transfer to Palma for anything more complex, so the same island constraint applies as elsewhere in the Balearics. Out of season the island empties and much of the private provision aimed at visitors closes.
