The town's tourism is a mix of families, surfers drawn to the Atlantic breaks around Sagres and the Costa Vicentina, and a long-established foreign-resident community, which gives it both a seasonal injury pattern from water sports and steady year-round demand for routine care. The exposed western Algarve coast is windier and cooler than the sheltered beaches further east, which regularly leads visitors to underestimate their sun exposure.
